Advances in recent years with solar power panels is making the reality of widespread use solar energy more possible than ever before. For example the discovery that nanoparticles in an organic dye can convert sunlight into electricity, based on research at the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany.
A thin electricity-generating film is placed between two glass panes, and since the size of the nano-particles are so tiny the resulting solar modules look semitransparent . In addition, some states are making efforts to encourage solar power in private and commercial use. Duke Energy Carolinas is one such company proposing a $100 million plan to install solar panels in about 850 North Carolina sites including homes, schools, stores and factories with the next few years.
More actions like this will be seen as government and congress allocate more and more funds to outfit schools and for research and development.
